Test Method: Rust Protection in Humidity Cabinet (ASTM D1748)

Meaning:

A test to assess rust prevention on steel under high humidity using a humidity cabinet.

Conditions:

  • Air Temperature: 48.9 ± 1˚C & Rate of air: 760 L/hour
  • Water level in cabinet: 203.0 ± 6.4 mm & pH 5.5-7.5
  • Speed of rotating 0.33 ± 0.03 rpm (1/3 rpm)
  • Relative humidity in the cabinet: > 95%

Evaluation:

  • Pass: ≤ 3 rust spots, each ≤ 1 mm in size.
  • Fail: > 3 rust spots or any spot > 1 mm in size.
